Fintel plc

The Cavendish View
Fintel is a leading provider of technology, data and distribution services to the UK retail financial services market. We believe that the Group is on the cusp of an acceleration in organic growth, which in turn should drive continued improvement in operating margins and RoIC. This fundamental outlook does not appear to be reflected in the valuation, nor does the strategic value of the Groups market propositioning or technology stack.

Inspiring Better Outcomes
Fintel sits between the three groups that make up UK retail financial services — the product providers who manufacture financial products, the intermediaries who advise on them, and the consumers who buy them — and supplies the data, technology and support that connect them. Its argument is that the market is fragmented and complex enough that participants need a common source of research, ratings and compliance infrastructure to operate effectively.
The business runs across two areas. Software and Data covers product research, ratings and market intelligence, delivered principally through Defaqto, whose ratings are used by advisers to compare products and by consumers to choose them, and whose data is licensed back to providers and financial institutions. Support Services covers the technology, compliance and regulatory support supplied to intermediary firms through SimplyBiz and threesixty, on a membership model, alongside advice and financial planning software.
Its customer base spans thousands of intermediary businesses — directly authorised IFAs, wealth managers and mortgage brokers — and hundreds of product providers and financial institutions. Revenue is largely recurring, through subscriptions and membership. Fintel is registered in Huddersfield and quoted on AIM.
